Of Permanent Value 2009 Woodstock Edition by Andrew
Kilpatrick is arguably the best book about Warren Buffett and
Berkshire Hathaway. While there is so many important things to
learn about Buffett (his life, his wit and wisdom, etc) and
Berkshire, Andy Kilpatrick is able to write them all down in a
concise way (short stories format, i.e. just a few pages per
topic, many topics only occupied one or two pages). It also
covers important people around/related to Warren Buffett which
helps me understand how Buffett become the person he is right
now (and how he interact or deal with other people, both in
business and personal matter). Simply, this book is a must read
for all Warren Buffett fans and all value investor.
Eventhough this book is very abundant in information (with more
than 340 chapters), it is not boring to read. One of the reason
is that the chapters are mostly short and getting directly to
the point. If you don't feel like reading the whole book, you
can always pick the chapters that interest you. And the Index
and the table of contents will help you navigate to the topic
that you want to read. Some of the title in the table of
content (for example: "I.O.U.S.A", or "A $210,000 wallet", or
"Oversexed Man") might not be the most obvious in terms of what
exactly the chapter will cover but those titles are interesting
and catchy and make me interested to find out what that chapter
is all about)
Kudos to Andy Kilpatrick for putting this book together and
continue to update the story about the greatest value investor
of our time. I also appreciate Andy Kilpatrick's (and Warren
Buffett's) sense of humor.
Things you will learn from this book (in addition to Warren
Buffett): Charlie Munger, Berkshire operating businesses,
Insurance business, Energy business, Bonds, Modern stocks,
California and Standford, Wit and Wisdom, Physical fitness, and
many other interesting topics (Related to Buffett or Berkshire
Hathaway).
What I also like about this book:
1. More color photos (and more photos in general)
2. Updates on Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway activity
during the year 2008
3. A photo index on page 1909
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do. I have read this
book more than once (including the previous versions). I learn
so much from Of Permanent Value, and I learn something new
everytime I read it.
Below I added more detail review about the content of the
book.
Sincerely,
Sidarta Tanu
